A crown is a restoration that simulates to be a natural tooth, which is cemented or is screwed on the dental implant (the dental implant is the equivalent to the root of a tooth).
A bridge is a fixed structure that replaces one or more teeth using the dental implants as support, called posts. These support the lacking pieces that lay on the gum imitate natural pieces. These new teeth are not removed from the mouth of the patient, unlike the dental removable prosthesis.
The spaces left by the lacking teeth can cause that the existing teeth rotate or move towards the empty space, resulting in a wrong bite.
This also can cause periodontal (gum) and temporomandibular (TMJ) problems and for that reason it is important to replace the missing pieces with dental implants. |
